Navajo Townsite Community Development Corporation to

Receive $75,000.00 Our Town Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts

Navajo Townsite Community Development Corporation (NTCDC) has been approved for a $75,000.00 Our Town award from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to support Culture & Arts Master Plan for community of Navajo, NM, and Red Lake #18 Chapter. This is one of 57 grants nationwide, totaling $4,175,000, that the NEA has approved in the Our Town category. These creative placemaking grants support projects that integrate arts, culture, and design activities into local efforts to strengthen and authentically engage communities, center equity, advance artful lives, and lay the groundwork for long-term systems change. “The National Endowment for the Arts is pleased to support a wide range of projects, including NTCDC’s Culture & Arts Master Plan, demonstrating the many ways the arts enrich our lives and contribute to healthy and thriving communities,” said NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD. “These organizations play an important role in advancing the creative vitality of our nation and helping to ensure that all people can benefit from arts, culture, and design.”
The Navajo Townsite Community Development Corporation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, will work with the Red Lake #18 Chapter in the development of a Master Culture & Arts Plan by engaging the public to identify, manage or preserve cultural and sacred sites, how we incorporate public arts, cultural arts, and culturally relevant design into the community or to develop meaningful and supportive spaces for artists, artisans, and others. NTCDC Board Chairperson, Jonathan Hale, stated, “It is part of our responsibility to assist with the beautification and ownership in preserving our cultural heritage in the community of Navajo. This concerted effort would not have been possible without the support of Red Lake #18 Chapter and its community leadership. Moving forward, we can actively collaborate and participate in giving back to the community that has supported and respected NTCDC. Ahxe’hee’.”
